These are 16 concepts about web design that you should consider:

1. The organizational structure of the site is important. The navigation through the website should be intuitive. People love websites that are easy to use.

2. The content on most pages should fit within the browser window without scrolling. Content that a user must scroll to is often not seen.

3. Images are a way to liven up what otherwise would be dull. Almost any image can be used as a button for navigation.

4. The first page of the website should clearly indicate how to use the site and what the site is about. It is helpful if you have written a 25 word or less description of your entire web site.

5. Think horizontal when you think of web pages. There is more screen real estate horizontally than vertically. This is why most buttons or navigation links are along the left edge Most people have 17" monitors, however, some 14" monitors are still around. This needs to be considered to make sure your most important information will fit on the monitor without scrolling - especially, on the first page.

6. What kind of information do users of your website want and need most? What are the key points you wish to communicate?

7. What kind of images do you have to use? Do we need to create (or take) more images? Do you have a logo? Do you have a tag line you use?

8. What colors most represent your company?

9. Do you have text we can use? How many different pages (logical groupings or sections) do you think you will need and what are their titles (What's New, About Us, Contacts, Order Form, Links, Products, etc)? Try to limit this to less than ten categories and/or subcategories. List these in most important to least important.

10. Do you have specific preferences about the way your site should be designed?

11. Do you have favorite websites and why are they your favorites?

12. How often will you need to have changes made?

13. What is your budget and deadline? Who will be responsible for certain aspects (collecting/creating images and text) of the website.

14. Do you need a shopping cart? How many items do you have? Do you have images of all products? Do you accept or want to accept credit cards?

15. Do you need to collect e-mails for a newsletter or other purposes?

16. Be sure your website address is listed on all your printed and e-communication!
